   Kyiv (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiev) is the capital of Ukraine. This city, scattered on both banks of the river Dnipro, is one of the oldest in the Europe. Impetuous history left numerous cultural artifacts of all styles beginning from XI a.d. ending nowadays. Among those are monumens of era of the Kyivska Rus' (IX - XII) - matchless christian religious buildings of the world's importance - Saint Sophia (is in the UNESCO world heritage list), Kyiv-Pecherska Lavra. At the same time Kyiv is inhabited by beautiful buildings, whole blocks in baroque, empire, neoclassic, soviet architecture school (Khershcatyk, and the biggest statue in Europe rising on Pechersk hills).

   The city have been different icons through ages - "The mother of Rus cities" (as first city, from where the whole Rus started), and "Second Jerusalem" (as the most sacred place in the Rus, the place where the Christening of the Rus), and "The greenest city of the Europe" (once Charles de Gaulle in moment of admiration mentioned "so many parks, recreation zones in the city make impression these are not separated parks but one big park where the city has scattered) Not surprising, the symbols of the city are Archangel Mykhail and the flower of chestnut.
